On behalf of the ASSC23 Local Organizing Committee, I am absolutely delighted to welcome everyone to the Western University for the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness, June 25-28, 2019. ASSC 23 will be the 20th anniversary of when Western last hosted the annual meeting in 1999. A lot has changed at Western over the last twenty years - and we are looking forward to showing you all that has happened.

Founded in 1878, Western is one of Canada's leading research-intensive universities and home to 32,000 full-time students. Our main campus spans more than 480 hectares of Gothic-style buildings mixed with more modern buildings that reflect our architectural heritage. June is a wonderful time to visit Western. With expansive lawns, mature trees, many flowers, and a river flowing through the grounds, Western is widely acknowledged as Canada's most beautiful university campus.

Over the last twenty years, Western has emerged as a world leader in Cognitive Neuroscience, culminating in the establishment of the Brain and Mind Institute (BMI) in 2011. The BMI provides a centralized and visible presence for cognitive neuroscience at Western. Our institute, housed in a brand new state-of-the-art building, brings together researchers from eight faculties and has strong collaborations with other neuroscience and philosophy centres, including the Rotman Institute of Philosophy. We look forward to showing you around the BMI and introducing you to our researchers and trainees.

Our campus is located in London Ontario, a vibrant city of tree-lined streets and home to nearly 400,000 people. As you will discover, London has many fine parks, cycle paths, restaurants, bistros, and bars. We are close to two of the Great Lakes (Lake Erie and Lake Huron), both of which have fine beaches, parks, and nature reserves. And Niagara Falls and the wine-region of the Niagara area are just a short distance away.

Western is also situated on traditional territories of several First Nations peoples including the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenausaune, the Lenaapeewak and the Attawandaron, all of whom have longstanding histories with the land in Southwestern Ontario and London. There are three First Nations communities in close proximity to Western, including the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, the Oneida Nation of the Thames and the Munsee-Delaware Nation.

You will have lots to discover while enjoying the exciting talks and presentations at ASSC 23. See you in June!
